Barca became the first Spanish team in history to win the league, cup and the Champions League when they beat Manchester United last Wednesday, not a bad start for Pep Guardiola in his first year as coach.
There was only one team in the final after the first ten minutes and playing the football which has seen them win fans around the world, Barca toyed with United for the rest of the game. The main difference was in the midfield where the quality of Xavi, Iniesta and Busquets shone through completely. Let's face it, was there really any competition between them and Anderson, Carrick and Giggs. Maybe Giggs 15 years ago but now he is long past his best.
Guardiola has tried to play down his importance to this team, saying that it is the work of the players but in reality he has made a massive difference. Remember a year ago how many problems there were in the team which finished third and Rijkaard was sacked before the end of the season. Now the team has found renewed desire through a new coach Guardiola who is not prepared to accept a lack of commitment which was Rijkaard's big failing and he has shown that in how he has been prepared to discipline Eto'o during the season.
Guardiola is a rare example in football of someone who is open minded. He left Barcelona as a player to experience new cultures and experiences and he has returned wiser for it.
