As Barcelona stumbled through its final year under Frank Rijkaard one of the players receiving most criticism was the expensive arrival for Arsenal Thierry Henry who had to constantly answer to comparisons between his form at the Camp Nou and his previous displays at Arsenal. The Frenchman though has weathered the storm and has been one of the key players this season and now the club are looking to keep him at the club after his present contract expires.
The 31-year-old has always been a highly sort after quality in the Premiership for his performances at Arsenal and so there have been no shortage of suitors if he chose to turn his back on Catalunya but that now seems unlikely with him enjoying his football and the club riding high in the league and the Champions League. Barca are believed to have turned down an offer from Manchester City who have been watching Henry’s progress closely.
The interest though has prompted Barca to look at extending his current deal for three more years and at the same time they have issued a hands off warning to City who since their failure to sign Kaka have turned their attention to the world’s most talented player Lionel Messi.
“He is not for sale and it is not a question of money, he is happy at Barcelona and he reflects our style of football,” responded Barca president Joan Laporta.
